Spime to launch m-commerce solution in India

Spime, a location-enabling technology company based in the US with major development operations in Chennai, plans to launch a mobile commerce consumer solution through four telecom operators in the Asia-Pacific region, including India.

While it has already tied up with mobile operators in the Americans for launching the solution I that region, it plans to launch its mobile Commerce product in the Asia-Pacific region within the next three months. The patented product will not just be a typical banking solution, but will offer a slew of enabled services.

“We have closed a deal with one of the Americans’ leading mobile operators along with a social networking company based at San Francisco to launch our innovative mobile Commerce consumer solution,” Said Shankar Narayanan, CEO, Spime Inc. “The Mobile Commerce solution will be launched I the Asia-Pacific region in the next three months and four operator from this region have shown deep interest and have already signed the non-disclosure agreement with us,” he said. Spime’s mobile commerce product in one of the very first consumer solutions to be launched in this part of the world.

According to Shankar, Spime is the only company in the world as of now that has a wide range of location-based technologies and application such as SUPL, complete turn-by-turn ‘navigation including onboard, off-board and hybrid navigation solution. It also has the unique widget application platform. Again, this is the only solution available to mobile industry that has location enablement navigation and connected to native applications such as contacts and calendars in the device operating systems, he said.

The two-year old company has also development a complete turn-by-turn navigation for all the major cities in India. “We are in discussion with them very shortly to enable Spime to launch this mobile Commerce solution in India,” Shankar Said.

Spime has partnered with industry leaders in the location map domain such as Navteq (Which has been acquired by nokia recently for $8.5 billion) and TeleAtlas, which has been acquired by German-based Tom Tom, one of the leading GPS devices Manufacturers in the world.

Spime has also partnered with AutoDesk and deeCarta, both of which are LBS platform companies and laeding GPS chip companies.

Dow Jones has selected Spime as one of the 70 upcoming innovative wireless startups in the US. It invited Spime to present its products at the wireless Innovation Finalists meet at San Francisco, Shankar said.
